Gold braces are very similar to silver metal braces, but are plated with a thin layer of gold to give them their distinctive appearance. Functionally, these gold orthodontic braces work exactly the same as traditional silver metal braces, and require ties to engage the wire to the bracket. In most orthodontic offices, gold braces cost more than silver braces due to their expensive material make-up.
